Hotel towel dilemma: Replace or reuse?

More than 75% of U.S. hotels have towel and linen reuse programs, according to an industry survey

(CNN) -- Dan Condon believes in recycling. Just not when it comes to his hotel towels.
Condon composts when he's at home in Boulder, Colorado. He eats local, organic and fair-trade food and drives a Honda CR-Z hybrid sports car.
You might call him green.
Except he's not so green when he travels for his work at an education nonprofit and stays in a hotel, which happens about 10 weeks per year. There, he uses a new towel every day. And don't try to bribe him with a drink or dessert coupon to get him to reuse the same one.

Indonesia targets 800,000 Chinese tourist in 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - Indonesian government targets 800,000 to 900,000 foreign tourists from China in 2013. Minister of Tourism and Economic Creative, Mari Elka Pagesto, said government tried to increase the number of foreign tourists, including from China.
"Our target in 2013 is nine million foreign tourists," she said optimistically on Tuesday. The target is 25 percent higher from the previous year....read more

What women want: Hotels look to cater for more female business travelers

(CNN) -- Hotels are working overtime to accommodate the needs of one of the fastest growing demographics in the travel industry: businesswomen.
"Women are nearing half of all business travelers, and they make up 85% of purchase choices in the household," says Carolyn Pearson, the founder of Maiden-Voyage.com, a website that connects female business travelers across the globe and rates femme-friendly hotel brands.
"A woman might choose a hotel for business travel and then, if she likes it, go back for a weekend stay, or book the room again with the family. Hotels are starting to realize that when it comes to travel decisions, women are really influential."
Pearson also trains hotels to look at their service from a female perspective, enabling them to tweak what they offer to appeal more to women .... read more

Januari 2013, Jumlah Wisman Turun 5.88 Persen Dibandingkan Januari Tahun Lalu

  • Jumlah kunjungan wisatawan mancanegara (wisman) ke Indonesia pada Januari 2013 mencapai 614,3 ribu atau turun 5,88 persen dibandingkan jumlah kunjungan wisman Januari 2012, yang sebesar 652,7 ribu. Begitu pula, jika dibandingkan dengan Desember 2012, jumlah kunjungan wisman Januari 2013 turun sebesar 19,90 persen.
  • Jumlah kunjungan wisman ke Bali melalui Bandara Ngurah Rai pada Januari 2013 turun 8,08 persen dibandingkan Januari 2012, yaitu dari 249,7 ribu menjadi 229,6 ribu. Jika dibanding Desember 2012, jumlah kunjungan wisman ke Bali juga turun sebesar 13,17 persen.
  • Tingkat Penghunian Kamar (TPK) hotel berbintang di 23 provinsi pada Januari 2013 mencapai rata-rata 46,51 persen, atau turun 4,74 poin dibandingkan dengan TPK Januari 2012, yang tercatat sebesar 51,25 persen. Demikian pula, bila dibanding TPK hotel pada Desember 2012, TPK hotel berbintang pada Januari 2013 mengalami penurunan 9,34 poin.
  • Rata-rata lama menginap tamu asing dan Indonesia pada hotel berbintang di 23 provinsi selama Januari 2013 tercatat sebesar 1,97 hari, turun 0,05 hari dibanding keadaan Januari 2012
